During her father’s stay in a convalescent home, Barbara noticed that it took two to three nursing aids to maneuver her father in bed and hold him in place to perform routine personal care. Sadly, meeting his daily care needs became a very traumatic event. It was at this time that she began thinking about and devising better ways to turn, bathe and reposition patients. After the loss of her father, Barbara’s mother had a serious fall and became bedfast. Being turned or touched by hospital nursing staff caused her mother a great deal of pain and discomfort. After her hospital stay, Barbara’s mother returned home to be cared for by her daughters. Drawing on ingenuity and her hobby of sewing, Barbara developed the first Turn2 prototype, enabling her to turn, bathe and change her mother’s bedding even while working alone. It was then that Barbara realized that her invention could be easily used in a variety of settings by family caregivers and professionals alike. Today, the unique, patent pending design of the Turn2® Turning Aid™ is FDA registered as a Class One device. And as Barbara intended, it serves as a practical, easy-to-use solution for professional caregivers wanting to decrease their rate of injury due to patient handling tasks and family caregivers who have little to no formal training.
Testimonials“The staff loved it and uses it. It prevents injury and is like having another person helping with the turning. I recommend it highly. Once staff has learned the proper technique to use it, they own it.”
Craig Moors, RN, DNS “I have found that the Turn2 device has become a very important product among our staff in the Skilled Nursing Department. I believe when this product is properly used it results in a reduced risk for injury among staff that must move and turn patients in their beds. I am pleased with the results we have seen in our facility.”
Steve Ramirez MPH
Chief Operating Officer “As owner and operator of Ray Fisher Medical Equipment & Supplies, I have seen many products come through our doors. The Turn2 product is one of those items that helps fill a particular need. The product is well designed and, with a little practice, can help aid the caregiver in turning the patient while reducing possible injury to both the patient and caregiver. It’s a handy tool for any healthcare provider who needs to turn bedbound patients and wants to avoid back strains.”
