A History of Our Product’s Development

Barbara Perry - Inventor of theTurn2® Turning Aid™
|
Invented by a Caregiver…for Caregivers – The idea for the
Turn2® Turning Aid™ was born out of Barbara Perry’s own personal caregiving experience. As her parents’ health declined and they became confined to bed, she learned firsthand how challenging it is to meet patients’ personal care needs - both for them and for their nursing staff. Caring for her ailing parents became a poignant lesson in what she quickly came to realize plays out day after day across the nation, as caregivers and families struggle to provide the best care possible for their patients and loved ones.
During her father’s stay in a convalescent home, Barbara noticed that it took two to three nursing aids to maneuver her father in bed and hold him in place to perform routine personal care. Sadly, meeting his daily care needs became a very traumatic event. It was at this time that she began thinking about and devising better ways to turn, bathe and reposition patients.
After the loss of her father, Barbara’s mother had a serious fall and became bedfast. Being turned or touched by hospital nursing staff caused her mother a great deal of pain and discomfort. After her hospital stay, Barbara’s mother returned home to be cared for by her daughters. Drawing on ingenuity and her hobby of sewing, Barbara developed the first Turn2 prototype, enabling her to turn, bathe and change her mother’s bedding even while working alone. It was then that Barbara realized that her invention could be easily used in a variety of settings by family caregivers and professionals alike.
Today, the unique, patent pending design of the Turn2® Turning Aid™ is FDA registered as a Class One device. And as Barbara intended, it serves as a practical, easy-to-use solution for professional caregivers wanting to decrease their rate of injury due to patient handling tasks and family caregivers who have little to no formal training.

"I feel the Turn 2 is a great product! Not only is it great
for clients that are able to assist with a turn, but especially
for those clients that are completely bed-bound who are not able
to assist with turns at all. When properly used, I feel the Turn
2 will help prevent injuries for not only the caregivers, but
the clients as well."

"The turn-2-turning aide is a great product and continues to
be a favorite with the caregivers, especially those caregivers
who provide care without the assistance of someone else. The
strap that enables caregivers to keep a patient turned on one
side is the one of the most valuable features, people also like
the durability of the product! The Around The Clock Caregiver

“As owner and operator of Ray Fisher Medical Equipment &
Supplies, I have seen many products come through our doors. The
Turn2 product is one of those items that help fill a particular
need. The product is well designed and, with a little practice,
can help aid the caregiver in turning the patient while reducing
possible injury to both the patient and caregiver. It’s a handy
tool for any healthcare provider who needs to turn bed bound
patients and wants to avoid back strains.”
Ray Fisher Pharmacy Owner Fresno, CA
“I have found that the Turn2 device has become a very
important product among our staff in the Skilled Nursing
Department. I believe when this product is properly used it
results in a reduced risk for injury among staff that must move
and turn patients in their beds. I am pleased with the
results we have seen in our facility.”
Kingsburg Hospital Chief Operating Officer
Kingsburg, CA
“I just wanted to thank you so much for being able to
provide our facility with your new product the “Turn2.” This has
allowed our staff to improve their techniques in repositioning
our residents. It also has provided increased comfort while
performing these tasks. Our staff has been able to manage
increased ability to turn residents with a one-person assist,
when in the past it would have required a two-person assist. The
materials you have used are durable and non-irritating to the
resident’s fragile skin. The Turn2 is also easy to clean and has
proven to be a valuable tool for our staff by taking the
majority of the weight off their bodies thus preventing fewer
workers comp cases. Again, thank you for such a great product
our staff and residents have been able to utilize.”
Kingsburg Hospital LVN/MDS Coordinator Kingsburg,
CA
“It gives me great pleasure to assist any medical
professional in making a decision to obtaining the Turn2.
Recently, our staff attended safety training where they were
introduced to the Turn2. The resident who we wanted to try this
tool with has been an issue in the past with back injuries. The
Turn2 that we were given to trial was not long enough for this
particular resident (so we had one specially made for her. While
we had the Turn2, we tried it on residents that it did fit. The
reality is that even though a bed may be in the right position,
the right height, when holding residents in a turn position, it
puts great strain on the individual’s back who is holding them
in place for the treatment to be performed by a licensed nurse.
The Turn2 does the holding and there is not anywhere near the
degree of strain on the Assistant who is holding the resident
for an extended period of time. The staff loved it and uses it.
It prevents injury, and is like having another person helping
with the turning. I recommend it highly. Once staff has learned
the proper technique to use it, they own it.”
